KINGSCROSS LIDO

A swimming pool in your backyard is what anyone would consider a luxury, and since last May atelier EURA are lucky to have one in theirs.

A wonderful example of Land Art within the life construction site of the King's Cross redevelopment, "of Soil and Water" is the country's first man-made public bathing pond and will be opened for two years.

Part of King's Cross Public Arts Programme, the pond is a collaboration between Ooze Architects and artist Marjetica Potrc and it sits in the edge of the Lewis Cubitt Park, the permanent green heart of the 72 acre redevelopment by Townsend Landscape Architects.

It is 10 m wide 40 m long chemical-free pond purified through a natural process, that uses wetland and submerged plants to filter and maintain clear water.

Anyone can book a three hour slot and enjoy the experience of swimming under the ever changing landscape of teh city.

The temporary nature of the project gives the project an unusual freshness that is most welcome within one of the largest developments in town.
